This year’s New Works program kicks off on September 9th at the Cincinnati Ballet. Performances will go until the 19th. You can get tickets here: http://www.cballet.org/performances/newworks
For those of you unable to come, the music will be on sale here shortly after the performances. I can’t wait to hear people’s responses – it has been a massive amount of work for me, not to mention Heather, who only got the final version of the music a few weeks ago!

A more streamlined site, and some new options for buying music. I’ve taken out the “pay what you want” option and replaced it with the ability to stream for free, along with a paid download of either high-quality (VBR) mp3s or loss-less FLAC (equal to CD quality). Right now I have it set up so that when you purchase a download, I’ll simply reply via email with a link to your download. More often than not I should be able to respond within a few hours, and hopefully down the line I’ll figure out how to automate it securely.
Lost a few of my recent posts in the move, so just wanted to re-announce that I’m playing an acoustic set tonight to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Park + Vine downtown.

Come see us perform for the first time in almost a year! We’ve been on hiatus, and who knows when the next show will be, but I guarantee we will be at Baba Budan’s on Friday night, February 12th. Playing all the oldies, plus some of the music I wrote for the Ballet last Fall.
Opening for us will be the mesmerizing and antioxidant-rich Tumeric.
Music should begin around 10pm. All ages, free admission, no reason not to come!

Some of you might have noticed several shows I had posted that are no longer there (Columbus, Nashville, etc). You may also have noticed the suspicious inclusion of the words “Solo Show” next to some upcoming dates. Allow me to explain. Our stellar violinist/bell player/accordionist Andrea will be playing her last show with us on May 29th at Fountain Square, after which she will part ways to seek her fortune in the wide, wide world. That leaves a big gap in the live show which will take some work to rebuild. (It’s times like this that I curse my inability to play guitar, violin, and sing at the same time. Can anyone give me lessons on that?)
In addition to that I’ve taken on the task of doing two film scores, one a short film and one a feature-length. I’m incredibly excited to do these projects as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but I’m under no illusions as to just how much work it’s going to be. Throw in the work I’m continuing to do towards the next album and my time gets pretty constrained. So instead of trying to play shows out of town over the summer with a violin-less band, we all decided to go on hiatus after the Fountain Square show and lay low for a while.
But please don’t think this means I’m giving up on performing. I’d quickly drive myself crazy trying to record in solitude, and I really need the ability to play in front of a live audience to keep myself focused. Hence the scattering of solo shows I’ll be doing over the coming months (some of which won’t necessarily be completely solo). I’m looking at this as a way for me to get back to basics and get more comfortable performing my music without accompaniment and also as a way to get a fresh perspective on what exactly it is I want as a band. If you were to give me carte blanche to construct my ideal group, I’m not even sure what I would want. A string quartet? Synthesizers? Vibraphone? Would I want to play any of the violin parts? Do I want an amplified sound or a more dynamic, acoustic sound? I’m hoping this hiatus will give me some clarity and a way to build things up organically.
So I want to apologize to any fans who were looking forward to the shows that got cancelled, but my hope is that this will result in an even stronger and more exciting live show down the line.
